Logo Redesign

CAMPS Inc. 1 Logo Redesign 2021

Outside of my requirements as UX/UI Design Team Lead, I was asked by the Government PM if I would be interested in redesigning the logo for the application (CAMPS Inc. 1). The process was started in January of 2020 and then was dropped for a bit and then picked up months later and finished around August 2020. It was an interesting journey to learn about my client at the beginning and then coming back after months of learning and bringing that perspective back into the logo.

The original logo was a photo collage of an airlift C17 flying “out” of a globe. So I took that for the final inspiration after working through several other ideas such as patches/badges etc. Click button below to see logo process iterations. For the final logo, we wanted to incorporate the Air Force logo as well as indicate all lines of business which included airlift and air refueling. So I recreated a vector drawing of a C17 and a KC135 tanker with a F15 fighter in the background (to also indicate Coronet movement). The challenge was that a lot of words was wanted - “CAMPS” and then including the description of what “CAMPS” means and then also the slogan. And we needed a darker version but also the light version. Another challenge is that when the logo is needed for presentations or email signature, the logo ideally is “stripped” of all the extraneous words and just offers the basic design elements, etc.

The logo redesign has been such an honor to be a part of because this application is seen and recognized by users worldwide throughout the military, USTC and 618th AOC operations.
